Guiding Principles

The following guiding principles serve as a compass, to frame the future direction with clear shared values and aspirations for placemaking.

  • Every aspect of the Alphington Commons has been deliberately designed to celebrate nature and living things. It is a place of beauty and wonderment that is also resilient, healthy and self-sustaining.

  • The Alphington Commons is a place for everyone, and is purposeful in our approach to inclusion. Placemaking from a deep understanding of user needs across generational, cultural and other dimensions of diversity. The Alphington Commons is a ‘third place’ for people, where enduring relationships are formed, and an engaged community keeps it alive.

  • The Alphington Commons will be a place of transdisciplinary knowledge exchange. It will be built on the existing thought-leadership and best practice spanning disciplines of education, bush kinder, food, circular economy, regenerative agriculture and technology.

  • The Alphington Commons is a thriving place, buzzing with activity. As a community, it will foster fun through an offering of food, trade, nature, play, learning and experience.
